In April 2022 we completed a comprehensive soundproofing project at a residential property in Belmont, Massachusetts. The goal was reduce noise coming from outside the house.
The project began with the removal of all existing sheetrock on the exterior walls. After this, multiple layers of soundproofing materials were installed to ensure maximum noise reduction. This included soundproofing insulation and a vinyl sound barrier to block airborne noise. Clips with channels were then installed to further reduce sound transmission, followed by the application of new sheetrock.
To optimize soundproofing, a special compound is applied to each sheet of sheetrock. A second layer of sheetrock was installed over the first, creating a robust barrier against noise. The entire surface was plastered and painted to achieve a finished look.
Key materials used during the project included:
- Vinyl Sound Barrier: Blocked airborne noise.
- Sound Barrier Tape (MLV Tape): Sealed seams and gaps.
- Soundproofing Glue (GSound Putty): Reduced airborne noise.
- Quiet Insulation: Cotton-based acoustic insulation.
- Sound Clips: Reduced transmission noise.
- Acoustic Sealant: Sealed corners and edges for soundproofing.
- ECOSilent 5MM: Installed underlayment for acoustical soundproofing in the ceiling.
The combination of products resulted in a significant improvement in sound isolation, providing the homeowners with a quieter, more peaceful environment.
